At the start of the New Year everyone is making resolutions and looking forward to a better year ahead. At Exporta, we are looking at why now is the time to switch from wooden pallets to plastic pallets. From January 1st, new rules came into effect as part of our move away from the EU. Shipping goods within the EU now means all wooden pallets must be ISPM15 certified. We can expect to see a shortage in wooden pallets in the coming weeks and months, as well as potential increase in costs. This is where switching to Plastic Pallets can help avoid any disruption to your export trade, along with a range of other quality and cost-saving benefits that have always come with using Plastic Pallets. Read on to find out why now is the time to switch to Plastic Pallets.
Wooden Pallets from January 1st will require to be heat treated to eliminate any bugs or pests which can be found in them. Plastic pallets, boxes, crates, and containers are naturally more hygienic, so parasites, bugs and fungi cannot live in or attach to them. This means they do not require any specific certification for exporting within the EU or any other country.
With increased demand for Wooden Pallets outstripping supply, prices have already been increasing steadily over the last few ears. The cost of Wood vs. Plastic is much narrower and with improved production techniques, Plastic Pallets are a much more viable option now.
Plastic Pallets can last up to 10 years, which is at least 25 more times that of a Wooden Pallets. Wooden Pallets can only really last a few trip and are prone to being damaged more easily. Plastic Pallets, with a longer lifespan and guaranteed suitability for a range if different jobs, are a more sustainable solution to Wooden Pallets.
98% of all pallets sold by Export are made from recycled materials. It is important to us to know that these products do not end up in landfill, which is where most Wooden Pallets ultimately end up. Our Plastic Pallets are all Eco-Graded so you can understand exactly what you are buying and it’s environmental impact. Find out more about Exporta’s environmental commitments here.
Wooden Pallets container more natural flaws, grains and knots. Plastic Pallets go through a very robust technical design and testing process before the come onto the market, with the machines calibrated so the Pallets produced are consistent and can meet the tolerance and capacity of its intended use.
